Task and Yard Management

Description
Optimize work yard processes with the Task and Yard Management system from ORTEC. The Task and Yard Management software, often described as Dock and Yard management, allows the loading and unloading processes at operations centers and work yards to be planned and controlled. TYM handles all processes from delivery to vehicle dispatch from the plant grounds.

Each plan is based on scheduled transports. Taking into consideration diverse restrictions, resources are reserved within the planning. These resources are primarily loading and unloading points, equipment and carriers. Task and Yard Management optimizes resource utilization and reduces the processing and waiting times of the vehicles at the yard.

Challenge The Task and Yard Management system from ORTEC provides an overview and allows control of activities at the work yard such as the controlling of incoming and outgoing trucks including the integration of “on-site paging systems.” The result of each planning session is an occupancy plan that contains information pertaining to arrival and departure times.

Loading and unloading processes are monitored and controlled on the control panel. Gate planning and ramp occupancy can be viewed via monitors. The controlling allows for responses to disturbances such as late arrivals, resource shortfalls or the like by means of manual or automatic re-planning. For monitoring purposes, tabular and graphical views in the form of a planning board are available in the control panel monitor.

Solution  Optimization and coordination of the internal transport and loading processes

Task and Yard Management (TYM), often described as Ramp and Yard Management, is the software for the planning, regulating and optimizing the internal processes for loading and unloading transports at facilities. The goal of TYM is to optimize the utilization of resources as well as minimize processing and waiting times of the vehicles on the premises. The system is able to display single and two stage truck and rail transports.

The following objectives are achieved by using the algorithm:

  • Optimal utilization of loading resources (equipment, vehicles, personnel, etc.)
  • Reduction of waiting and processing times for the trucks
  • Efficient regulation of carrier vehicles
  • Simulation of the effects which disruptions have on the entire situation

Result:

  • Exact instructions for the handling of resources and carrier vehicles
  • Up-to-date workflow regulation by communication of all areas concerned
  • Preview of expected resource workload
  • Information for personnel resource planning
  • Calculation of the route, storing areas, personnel or equipment
  • Results view of tours/ramps, personnel or equipment views
  • An outstanding tool for organizational scheduling
  • Tabular and/or graphical output of the results
