Carglass® rolls out ORTEC’s route planning system for the mobile service across Belgium March 10, 2008

After a successful rollout of ORTEC’s scheduling solution for services and routing across four service centers in Belgium, Carglass® is currently busy implementing the system at a fifth service center. The plan is to use the scheduling system for mobile services at a total of ten service centers by the end of July. Since the first two service centers in Hasselt and Vilvoorde went live a few months ago, Carglass® has already made savings in kilometer costs exceeding its expectations.

Reduced stress
“The vehicles based at these service centers have reduced their kilometers by approximately 10%,” says Ronny van den Driesch, Audit & Vehicle Manager for Carglass® Belgium-Luxembourg. “Furthermore, ORTEC’s scheduling solution has realized time savings, which has reduced stress levels and increased efficiency. A planner can now map out a full route with a variety of service activities at various locations in under ten minutes, which frees up more time for customers at the service desk. Our drivers spend less time on the road. We can reach our customers more quickly and at the agreed time, which enables us to provide them with a better service. Our customers and staff are our prime concern. If they are happy, the shareholders are happy and the circle is complete. Our Site Managers Petra Govaerts (Hasselt) and Bernard Noël (Vilvoorde) are also extremely pleased. Recently, they even went so far as to say that they should have implemented the system much earlier.”

Selection process
Carglass® had the choice of several systems and software suppliers. “Route planning and services were our priority. Because we perform activities on location at the customer, the choice was made very quickly. ORTEC was the only party able to provide an all-in-one scheduling solution for routing and services. Furthermore, we also went on reference visits. The company I visited had significantly increased its efficiency using the system, which of course also realized excellent savings.” Ronny van den Driesch is extremely enthusiastic regarding the cooperation with ORTEC. “They have the right attitude to business and know exactly how to think along with the customer.”

 
Future plans

Prior to its relationship with ORTEC, Carglass® performed all of its scheduling activities manually. “We used job sheets, which we still use today. However, the job sheets are now classified based on scheduling proposals made by the system. Previously, schedules were drawn up based on the expertise of the dispatchers,” says Ronny van den Driesch. “The speed with which this is now achieved is almost hard to believe. By the end of July the ten service centers will all have gone live. Who knows what direction we will take once we have reached that stage? In two years’ time the ten major service centers may be controlling the smaller regional centers, but this is all in the future. Only once the ten service centers have used the system for a year will we start looking to the future.”
