ORTEC TSS now also active in martial arts
March 17, 2008
ORTEC Team Support Systems (TSS), provider of advanced ICT systems to the sports industry, has expanded its portfolio of software systems with new software that enables extensive analysis in martial arts. The newly developed software can be used for martial arts such as karate, judo, taekwondo and boxing.
After successfully completing its first commission for the Dutch Karate Association (KBN) last weekend, ORTEC TSS was also commissioned to provide support at the Dutch Karate Championships for senior players to be held later this year. Information on the progress of these matches on various mats will be presented to the audience on video screens, to enhance the experience at the venue.
400 karateka
“This first commission in martial arts was very important to us,” says ORTEC TSS Director Gert Jan Wormmeester. “We knew we were ready for this, but a first commission is always exciting, especially during such a major event.” During the Open Dutch Championships at Topsportcentrum Rotterdam over 400 karateka from all over the world competed for the title. Matches took place simultaneously on five mats. “Analyzing the karateka on five mats and presenting the information to the audience in real time was a challenge,” says Gert Jan Wormmeester.
Much interest
ORTEC employee and former karate champion of the Netherlands and Former Yugoslavia, Adi Karamehmedovic, discussed the many possibilities of ICT and OR in karate with the KBN and top-class sports coordinator Nabil Ou-Aissa. The performance of ORTEC TSS was judged favorably. Gert Jan Wormmeester: “There is a lot of interest in the application of these systems. The future looks promising. It is now impossible to imagine the sports world without technological developments. They make a valuable contribution to the viewer experience, the improvement of the performance of the athletes, and measurement of the results of teams and individual competitors.”
