International Transport company to increase revenue with ORTEC TD scheduling and routing solution

Van der Helm Transportgroep is currently busy implementing the Vehicle Routing & Dispatch Solution ORTEC Transport & Distribution (ORTEC TD). In doing so, the logistics service provider expects to increase its revenue due to the optimized deployment of people and resources. Van der Helm Transportgroep also intends to gain an improved overview of its scheduling and a greater insight into these activities to facilitate decisions as to whether certain journeys should be driven using their own trucks, or outsourced to a third party.
Reducing empty kilometers
Van der Helm Transportgroep Director Richard van der Helm says: “We want to optimize our use of the vehicle fleet so that we can further reduce the number of empty kilometers. Furthermore, we want to have greater control over the administrative process and be able to inform our customers more quickly. The ORTEC scheduling and routing system will be interfaced with the Transport Management Systems and the onboard computers. The fact these interfaces can be created was a decisive factor for us to select ORTEC TD.”
Selection process
During the selection process Van der Helm compared a number of suites. “We eventually chose ORTEC TD after all because of its superior design and clearer charts. Imagine if I were to sit in the planner’s chair and try to prepare a schedule based on a list of figures. Naturally, after the fifth attempt the likelihood of someone saying ‘this will do’ is far greater. When the same list of figures is presented to you in charts, you have a visual tool with which you can actually optimize scheduling. This was the distinguishing feature of ORTEC TD compared to demos of other suites, which was exactly what we were looking for.”
